Event #129500
Expires: 10/18/2027

Course Description:

Mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, and substance abuse, are common and are the  leading causes of disability worldwide. In addition, medical professionals often lack the time or background training to appropriately address mental health needs presented by patients in practice. A  multidisciplinary approach, which includes optometry, offers a pragmatic method to deliver effective  mental care to at risk patients. In this interactive one-hour (1) course, the speaker will educate doctors on identifying mental illnesses and using interprofessional care strategies to support patients.

Learning Objectives:

    ● Understanding mental illnesses, recognizing warning signs, and intervening with appropriate referral care
    ● Identify areas where optometrists and behavioral professionals can collaborate in combating patient mental illnesses
    ● Discuss treatment and management options including crisis management, intervention and suicide prevention
