COPE #93129-NO
Event #129094
Expiration Date: 8/20/2027
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Checking pupillary responses to light is one of the simplest and most important tests optometrists perform on all patients. However, if overlooked and not careful, abnormal pupil findings can be missed if not anticipating those findings. This course will review what controls pupillary reaction to light, how to test pupils correctly, what to watch for when the pathways are affected, and common diseases that affect these pathways.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
1. Understand and review the anatomy of the pupillary pathways, will discuss afferent and Efferent pathways and discuss the different cranial nerves that control.
2. Understand how to properly test for pupil abnormalities and recognize what is normal and abnormal and what neurological condition it is connected to.
3. Review and discuss the most common cases that will present to eye care providers, review which tests must be ordered and how to manage these cases.
