COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Multifocal designs are improving but the fitting can still be a challenge.  The fitting process will be simplified as we review the available designs.  The essential tips and tricks needed to fit our patients successfully will be shared. Communication is the key to building trust with our patients.  We will explore the importance of word choice, detailed explanations and demonstrate how effective communication can improve your fitting success, show the value of our fitting fees and time and reduce the frustration amongst our patients. Several cases will be used to explain these fitting and communication tools.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

·        To understand the concerns that patients have with presbyopia and how it impacts our patient’s perception of us.

·        To learn a new way to explain presbyopia to reduce the fears, anxiety and frustrations that patients have.

·        To understand the different designs available and how to choose between them.

·        To develop a simplified system to fit all multifocal lenses.

·        To have tips and tricks to help fit those more complicated presbyopic cases.

Dr. Shalu Pal

Dr. Shalu Pal is an SCCO graduate who did her Cornea & Contact Lens Residency at NSU Oklahoma College of Optometry. Dr. Pal is a member of the Global Myopia Symposium committee, co-editor for the Mastering Myopia Newsletter, an advisor for the Global Council of Myopia Management, and research member of the Myopia in Practice study. Dr. Pal is a member of the AAO Innovations Council, past Chair of the AOA, Contact Lens & Cornea Section, a board member of the CAO, Cornea and Contact Lens Section and founder of the Canadian Contact Lens Academy. She is a member of the education committee for the OAO, CE advisor for the AOE and Latin Americas, EUROSCHOOL educator, Global Ambassador for GLOW and co-founder of a program which provides contact lens workshops to all Optometry Schools in North America, now known as the STAPLE program. She volunteers her time both locally and internationally while running a group practice in Toronto specializing in advanced specialty contact lens fitting, myopia management, concussion rehabilitation, vision therapy, dry eye management & ocular aesthetics. Dr. Pal was awarded the CLCS Achievement Award for her work in providing education in the industry and the Legends Award in 2022 by the American Optometric Association. Dr. Pal's work in the area of specialty lenses, myopia management, communication and practice management continues to be published. She also lectures globally and consults with many industry partners for the betterment of the profession through education.
